With dominant cars ruling the day at Sonoma Raceway, Brad Keselowski and the Discount Tire 2 team took made a strategy call but didn’t get the caution flag they needed to contend for the win.

The Discount Tire Ford Mustang started from P22 and was mired in the middle of the pack for most of the first stage. It wasn’t until the 2 team altered their pit strategy to go off schedule from the leaders that BK started to make up some ground. He restarted 8th at the beginning of Stage 2 and by the end of it, was running P2, gaining some bonus points in the process.

Late in the race, crew chief Paul Wolfe again elected to leave the Deuce on the track while leaders pitted, holding out as long as possible waiting for a caution. But other than the stage breaks, the yellow never flew all day and eventually, Brad had to relent and come in for fuel for the homestretch. He finished the afternoon in P18 as a result.

“It was just a frustrating day for the Discount Tire Ford Mustang. We were tight all day long and the lack of cautions really hurt our strategy. We just need to get a little better, but we will come back stronger. No time to dwell on it, we need to look ahead to Chicago next weekend.”
